Amin Akbar Ali Charania

Influenced by the notion of "giving back more than one takes", Amin Akbar Ali Charania was raised performing civic duties with his father. They helped in establishing and growing various charitable organizations in Karachi, Pakistan, which included medical services and transport for those in need.

Mr. Charania has been an entrepreneur and philanthopist since the early age of 14. He began his career working side by side with his father and brother in the family import/export business. At this time, Amin's father worked directly with HRH Prince Karim Aga Khan.

A dedicated leader for the Ismaili Community, his father was appointed by HRH Prince Karim Aga Khan as the personal representative for the Ismaili Karimabad jurisidction. Through this appintment, he and his father also established a senior citizens services, a school for orphans, various food programs, helped empower widows in becoming self-sustained.

During this time, Amin establiished the Karimabad Medical Center in 1973 and remained the founding President for 3 years. He launched this center to provide medical prescription subsidies to those with serious illness. This centre continues to operate today.

After two decades of philanthropic service and a decade of working with the family import/export business, Amin moved first to the US in 1978, and later to Canada in 1980. In Alberta, he began working with Wholesale Warehouse Industries, a worldwide distribution company.

He was rapidly promoted and entrusted to lead the entire distribution supply chain for the supplier in Canada. He single-handedly managed the distribution in western Canada for ten years as one of the largest importers of US products into Canada. Amin moved the business to British Columbia in 1990.

In 1992, Amin purchased the franchise license for Cobra West and led the company until 2006. He began directly sourcing his products by establishing new relationships with providers in China. That year, Amin sold his business, and continues to work with the company in the capacity of Vice President of Sales.

Today, he continues his philantropic work with the Cancer Society, and assists new immigrants to Canada from India and Pakistan. In recognition of Amin's most valuable service and dedication to those less fortune than himself, HRH Prince Karim Aga Khan bestows the highest commendation and emulation for his meritorious efforts.

Amin, now based out of Burnaby, BC, is married, and has two children who have followed his service-oriented role model. His eldest daughter, Shaherose, is based in San Francisco, and while working with technology startups also heads her own non-profit organization serving women entrepreneurs in high tech. His son is a student at Simon Fraser University, a National Champion Wrestler, and volunteers his time as a religious educator. His wife is a teacher and volunteers her time to teaching religious studies.

Ashif Dhanani

Graduated from the University of Calgary, and has more than 20 years of experience in business development, product development and marketing management working for Seismic Terra graphics and Sun Microsystems. At Sun Microsystems, Ashif held various positions including; Customer Support and Marketing for Western Canada; Director of Business Development for Sun Services Americas; Director of Audience Marketing; and Director of Product Development for Suns global utility computing offerings. Prior to Sun, Ashif worked in the Oil & Gas industry where he developed S/W applications for oil and gas exploration.

Bharti Bhuva 

Born in Kenya, Africa, Bharti Bhuva moved to the UK in 1968 to complete her education and  acquired  a degree in Business Management from the Loughborough University in London. She is owner and Director of Whitefield Legal Services employing a team of solicitors from across the country addressing land and property related issues, including Renewal Energy Technology solar PV and Solar Thermal concerns. 

Bharti Bhuva chaired the Vanik Business Group (VBG) for 2 years; a community based group that offers a forum for networking opportunities and an exchange of ideas to inspire local business development and promote environmental responsibility while mentoring young people into business world.   She has participated in several challenging cycling trips across Europe and Africa raising awareness and funds for the children of Africa.
